350 – a global day of climate action

Mackie Kitchen supports 350.org on an international day of action for a safe climate future.

350 is the number that leading scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide—measured in “Parts Per Million” in our atmosphere. The amount of carbon dioxide currently in our atmosphere stands at more than 389 parts per million. 350 PPM—it’s the number we need to get back to as soon as possible to avoid runaway climate change.

On Saturday 24 October 2009, people around the world are uniting to spread this simple message regarding climate change and to encourage world leaders to work towards this goal. The mission is to inspire the world to rise to the challenge of the climate crisis and to create a new sense of possibility for our planet.

This December, world leaders are meeting in Copenhagen to negotiate a global treaty on cutting emissions.
The draft treaty fails to meet the 350 test. It is hoped that increasing public awareness of this will urge world leaders to work towards a more appropriate treaty that is grounded in both science and equity.
